Bond University took on the Griffith Uni Knights on Sunday to claim the right to the trophy in the first grudge match to take place during the international rugby sevens.
Bond came out with fierce defense but it was Griffith who took the first blow scoring just to the right of the up rights and converting... Bond came back through a nice back line move followed by a dummy pass by Lydon to score in the right hand corner, conversion missed.
Griffith hit again in the second scoring via an overlap in the right hand corner due to Bond being down 1 play due to a controversial shoulder charge. This brought the score to 12 - 5 to Griffith.
A penalty given to Bond15 metres out from the try line saw Ed Bernstein take the tap, dummy and score to the left of the up rights. Unfortunately the conversion missed leaving the score line 12 - 10 to Griffith.
